Jinzhong Yu

Institute of Semiconductors, Academy of Sciences Section "Nanoelectronics and Nanophotonics" China
Graduated from Dept. of Physics, University of Science and
Technology of China, Beijing, China in 1965 and received his doctoral degree in
electrical engineering from Osaka University, Japan in 1991, respectively.
In 1965 he joined in Institute of Semiconductors, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Since then he had engaged in study on semiconductor epitaxy, laser diodes, detectors and
waveguide devices. His main research works were: 1. Design and fabrication of
semiconductor laser diodes, including AlGaAs/GaAs lasers and InGaAsP/InP lasers.
2. Growth of AlGaAs/GaAs, InGaAsP/InP & SiGa/Si heterostructures: LPE (Liquid
Phase Epitaxy), MOCVD (Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition) and UHV/CVD
(Ultra High Vacuum/CVD).
3. Characterization of heterostructures: V-I, C-V, L-I, DLTS and spectra
measurements.
4. Micro-fabrication: reactive ion beam etching, lithography and etc.
5. Study on Si based heterostructures, including SiGe/Si, GaP/Si heterostructures and
their optoelectronic characteristics.
6. SOI waveguide devices, including SOI optical switch array and modulators.
His present research concentrates on Si-based Photonics and Integrated
Optoelectronics. He has directed more than 20 doctoral candidates.
He is a member of American Society of Optics and SPIE, a member of Chinese
Society of Optics and a member of Chinese Society of Electronics.
He has received the awards: 1. Beijing Scientific Achievement Award (1981), "Short
wavelength AlGaAs/GaAs laser diodes".
2. Chinese Academy of Sciences' Achievement Award (Grade 2) (1985), "Long
lifetime AlGaAs/GaAs DH (Double Heterostructure) laser diodes".
3. Chinese National Science Progress Award (Grade 2) (1986), "Optoelectronic
devices for optical fiber communication".
4. Beijing Excellent Science Project Award (1989), "Long wavelength InGaAsP/InP
laser diodes".
5. Chinese Academy of Sciences' Achievement Award (Grade 2) (1991),
"InGaAsP/InP laser diode modules with single mode fiber and without cooler".
6. Chinese National Science Progress Award (Grade 2) (1992), "InGaAsP/InP laser
diode modules with single mode fiber and without cooler".
7. Model Graduate Supervisor of Chinese Academy of Sciences (2001,2006 and
2008).
He is an owner of Chinese Government Supported subsidy since 1992.
He is author or co-author of 4 books and published more than 300 papers in English
and Chinese.
